A Newcastle foodbank tells us how they are expecting to see a rise in people needing support this winter.

They say people will be having to choose between whether to eat or heat their home as we head towards the colder months.

Gemma Whaley, Deputy Chief Executive at Newcastle Foodbank, said: "Come the winter, people are starting to put their heating on.

"They'll be thinking now - do I put the heating on, or do I just wait.

"There are people who will be holding off for as long as they can as they can't afford their fuel bills.

"It's a sad situation for people to have to be in, because it should be people's basic rights to have food and to have a heated home.

"They shouldn't have to choose between whether they feed their children, or they feed themselves, or they heat their home instead.

"With fuel bills going up again, it's going to be even more of a struggle for families."
