Hexham MP secures government meeting to boost support for domestic abuse survivors in Northumberland

Joe Morris has secured a commitment from the Solicitor General to meet with Northumberland Domestic Abuse Services (NDAS) to discuss how to strengthen support for victims of domestic abuse in rural communities.
During yesterday's debate on violence against women and girls, Joe Morris highlighted the vital work carried out by NDAS and the scale of domestic abuse in Northumberland. In 2024-25, NDAS supported 555 adult survivors of domestic abuse and responded to thousands of incidents, many involving children.
Joe Morris, Member of Parliament for Hexham, said:
“Domestic abuse can affect anyone, no matter where they live. Those living in rural communities often face extra barriers in accessing help, from isolation to lack of transport. But, Northumberland Domestic Abuse Service does incredible work to combat this and support survivors right across our county.
“I was incredibly pleased to have been able to raise the work of NDAS in Parliament and secure a meeting with the Solicitor General to discuss how we can strengthen support and access to justice for survivors in rural areas like ours.”
In response, the Solicitor General praised NDAS’s commitment and confirmed she would be delighted to meet with both Joe Morris and NDAS to explore how government agencies, including the Crown Prosecution Service, can better support victims in rural communities.
