Body found confirmed as man from Newcastle

The body of a missing Newcastle man has been found near to the river in the Byrness area of Northumberland.

47 year-old Michael from the Gosforth area of the city, was reported missing on Monday, December 15.

Extensive enquiries were carried out by Northumbria Police as part of efforts to locate him.

Formal identification has taken place and police confirm that it is Michael.

His next of kin have been informed.

Detective Inspector Andrew Doyle, of Northumbria Police, said:“This is an extremely sad update in this investigation.

“Our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of Michael at this devastating time and we would ask that their privacy continues to be respected.

“Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal to locate Michael and provided information on his whereabouts.

“I would also like to thank all of those officers involved in the search for Michael for their efforts as part of the investigation.”
