Sunderland baby bank seen 70% rise in families needing support over the last year
Love Amelia are urging people across the region to get involved and help out where they can
A Sunderland baby bank charity says more needs to be done to tackle children living in poverty across the region.
They explain how they have seen around a significant 70% rise over the last year in families needing their support.
Steph Capewell, founder and Chief Executive of Love Amelia, said: "It's things like clothing, it's a pram to be able to access the community, nappies to wear, toys to play with, a bed to sleep in.
"It's all these basic things that every child has a right to and really deserve to have, but so many children are going without.
"I think over the last year we're definitely seeing more families who are falling below the poverty line.
"I think the cost-of-living crisis has got a lot to answer for with families who maybe were just managing, but budgets are just no longer stretching as far as they used to."
