Adam Johnson's giving evidence at his trial where he denies two charges of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.
The former Sunderland and Middlesbrough winger told the jury at Bradford Crown Court that he knew kissing the teenager was wrong - describing her as blameless - but has denied more serious offences.
The 28-year-old's voice cracked as he also admitted his life as a Premier League footballer made him arrogant.
He insists he initially only gave the girl his phone number so he could arrange to give her a signed shirt.
