A1(M) closed in both directions following serious collision

The A1(M) is closed in both directions between junction 60 for Stockton-on-Tees and junction 61 for Bowburn following a serious collision.
The crash happened shortly before 2:30 this morning.
The police have urged people to find an alternative route.
Durham Constabulary is leading the response, supported by County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, with National Highways Traffic Officers assisting with traffic management and diversion routes.
There were planned overnight roadworks Southbound between junction 63 and junction 61, yet they have now been completed.
The A1(m) however remains shut in both directions as police carry out ongoing investigation work.
According to National Highways there are no estimates for when the road will re-open.
