The Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk has been awarded the Gold Award in recognition of its active support for His Majesty’s Armed Forces Community.

The prestigious national award acknowledges the council's dedication to supporting serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and their families through various initiatives tied to the Armed Forces Covenant.

The council, which was previously a Silver Award holder, was commended for showing exemplary efforts in its employment-related support for reservists and individuals transitioning from military service to civilian jobs.

Councillor Steve Bearshaw, the Borough’s Mayor and a long-serving RAF member, expressed pride at the achievement:

"This Gold Award is national recognition of our active support for our incredible local Armed Forces and Veteran Community."

The council's commitment is further strengthened by the presence of RAF Marham within its community, with several council employees being members of the Armed Forces Community.

Kate Blakemore, the borough council’s Chief Executive said “In West Norfolk, we are proud to be home to RAF Marham and to have a number of reservists among our own community of colleagues who alongside delivering vital council services also play their part in the defence of our nation."

Former RAF Marham Station Commander, Group Captain Leonie Boyd, congratulated the council, acknowledging its significant role in aiding RAF Marham and its personnel.
