University of East Anglia's journalism team wins national teaching excellence award
The Newsroom Collective and Lauren Flannery receive prestigious recognition for educational impact at UEA
The University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich has seen its journalism team receive a national Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) 2026.
The Newsroom Collective, operating within UEA's Broadcast House, received this accolade from Advance HE, recognising the team's outstanding collaboration and impact on teaching and learning.
Under the leadership of Clare Precey, with Deputy Team Leader Dr Kim Ridealgh, the Collective integrates academia with technical specialists and industry partners.
A key achievement of The Newsroom Collective is their accredited journalism programmes, which have successfully placed graduates in various roles within organisations.
Their programmes prepare students not only with academic insight but practical experience through partnerships with major media outlets, including Bauer Media.
The team has been praised for its capacity to enhance student employability in journalism. A spokesperson from UEA expressed delight about the award, emphasising the programme's real-world applicability and success in preparing students for the media industry.
Lauren Flannery, another member of the UEA faculty, was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship for her work in inclusive and relational education, further elevating the university's profile in educational innovation.
