Norfolk students encouraged to explore Clearing on A-Level Results Day
University of East Anglia expects a high volume of Clearing interest today, as students across the county receive their results
As students in Norfolk receive their A-Level results today, the University of East Anglia (UEA) is urging them to consider Clearing as a viable option.
UEA anticipates a high number of calls through Clearing and has outlined advice for families to navigate this process.
Professor David Maguire, Vice-Chancellor of UEA, reminded students and their families that grades are only one aspect of their education journey and Clearing provides alternative pathways to success.
"Whether students achieve the results they were hoping for, or find themselves reconsidering their plans, there are still plenty of opportunities available," Maguire said.
The university highlights the growing trend of students using Clearing strategically, with many last year opting for this method as a choice rather than a fallback.
UEA is also focusing on mature students considering higher education, emphasising that Clearing is not just for recent school leavers.
Holly Gilman, decided to study at UEA as a mother of two and after a nine-year career in London:
"I didn't really like the job I was doing. I didn't really like the environment and I didn't want to commute and be away from my kids all the time.."
Holly also added how special doing University along side being a mum was: "it was just wonderful to have them at my graduation with me as well. And just realizing how much time has passed is quite shocking, they were three and five when I did my first class.... now they're about to turn nine and seven is just mad to me."
Holly said she urges everyone considering university, to do it sooner rather than later:
"If you do feel like this is an option for you, go for it. Don't wait a whole year. Don't put it off because it is a long commitment,
That being said, It was it was the best thing I've genuinely ever done. I'm so glad I've done this degree."
This year, Holly will be along side other staff members at The UEA, answering the phone lines to a new cohort of prospective students.
