A local MP tells us rural isolation and the number of serious collision locally, will only increase unless road safety improves here.

Ben Goldsborough is urging his constituents to share views on road safety in South Norfolk- as a part of a new campaign.

This short survey is designed to allow people to identify danger spots, share experiences, and suggest improvements.

South Norfolk's MP says all the evidence gathered from this will inform a report to be published in January 2026.

Work which will be shared with Norfolk County Council, Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner, and the Minister for the Future of Roads, Lillian Greenwood MP.

This investigation will also include a series of community roundtables which will bring together local residents, parish councils and schools.

He tells us the state of the network isn't helping things- but there's no silver bullet to this:

"We have more rural lanes and byways than most other parts of the Highways network in England and Wales.

"If you compare us to other rural counties- like our neighbours, Suffolk- they are not seeing the trajectory of collisions heading in the wrong direction as we are, and we have to ask ourselves why that is?"

"It's not all about speed limits. It's also about making sure that our roads are being designated for the right sort of traffic.

"A lot of our network, was ultimately made for the horse and cart but it's been marked as a 60 mph zone and both-way traffic. All this needs to be taken into account".
