Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity is urging the public to engage in more open discussions about hospice care and terminal illnesses in day-to-day life.

The charity works with the East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust to support people affected by life-limiting illnesses and bereavement across Norfolk and Waveney.

Fearn Hambling, Chief Executive of Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity, says there is still a lot of work to be done, in order to break taboos around hospice care:

"Opening up that conversation, it can sometimes be a difficult subject,

But I think the more that we can open up that conversation, the more people can talk about it freely, the less taboo it comes,

it just makes people feel more included and part of a community."

Through a partnership with Whartons Garden Roses, the charity is hoping to raise awareness, increase discussion, and provide a brand new experience for people in Norfolk.

For the first time, 7 acres of rose fields will be open to the public, in a ticketed event ran by the charity.

Organisers hope that visitors can explore the 1.5 million roses, take unique pictures, a spart conversation around the work the charity does.

"People can come along, take lovely pictures, all while supporting the good work that the hospice charity does. It's an opportunity to see something that isn't normally open to the public and I have to say it's quite spectacular" she said.

Fearn hopes this event engages visitors of all ages. She believes that the conversation needs to be opened up towards younger people:

"We're seeing a younger and younger population of people coming into hospice care and being diagnosed with a palliative condition. So we need to be able to support these people and their loved ones as much as possible."

The event will be taking place on the 9th and 10th of July 2026.
