Police make further arrests amid Thetford disorder investigation
Increased police presence aims to maintain peace following recent violence
Investigations into violent disorder in Thetford continue, with two more arrests made in connection with the disturbances on Wednesday, 5th August 2026.
A man in his 20s was arrested on Sunday, 9th August, on charges of assaulting an emergency worker alongside possession of class B and class A drugs.
He is currently held at Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Additionally, a teenage boy was arrested on the same day on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.
He has been released on bail with a return date set for 4th October 2026.
Court Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
Thomas Brown, 36, from Durham Way, Thetford, faced Norwich Magistrates Court on Monday, 10th August, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges involving possession of cannabis, driving without insurance, and failure to provide a breath test.
He received 10 penalty points on his driving licence and a fine of £60.
Deputy Chief Constable Dave Marshall stated, “Our officers continue to review footage from previous disorder in Thetford as part of ongoing efforts to identify those responsible for committing offences."
Maintaining Order and Safety
Marshall assured increased visible policing in the coming days, hoping to preserve the peaceful scenes recently observed.
Expressing gratitude towards the community, he commended public cooperation in maintaining calm and order.
To bolster public safety, increased policing powers, including Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, will remain active until Tuesday, 11th August.
These powers allow officers to direct individuals engaging or likely to engage in anti-social behaviour to leave the designated area.
The police commitment remains focused on ensuring community safety and accountability for those involved in the disorder.
