Parents need 'stronger guidance' on social media- Norfolk campaigner

It comes as the Government's public consultation on whether to ban under 16s from social media is now open

A local campaigner tells us stronger guidance for parents on the dangers of social media is an absolute must.

It's as overnight curfews on these sites are being considered by Ministers- as part of a public consultation to ban under 16s from all them.

This week, MPs have rejected a ban on under 16s using social media.

They've dismissed a Conservative amendment to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill by 134 votes.

"It's really the devices that are the problems"

Thorfinn Armstrong is from Great Moulton and has two children:

"If a total ban doesn't come in, I'd like to see much better guidance, particularly for parents, as it seems at the moment that they're left to make this decision by themselves, under a huge amount of pressure from their kids.

"If it does continue in the way it is at the moment, it's just going to lead to a much deeper decline for young people. Be that their ability to socialise, concentration or take up other hobbies.

"It's really the devices that are the problems here and I don't think this will be tackle in this public consultation.

"It's their portability, the fact that they can have them wherever they go and the fact that they're always connected to the internet".
