Norwich man found guilty of murder in Ipswich
He's due to be sentenced in August
A man has been found guilty of murder following the death of Ilja Akatjevas at his home in Ipswich last year.
Arvydas Maliusis, a 38-year-old Lithuanian national from Norwich, was convicted at Ipswich Crown Court this week.
On 23rd December, police responded to reports of a deceased man at a property on College Street, Ipswich.
The ambulance service pronounced Akatjevas dead at the scene, with a post-mortem examination revealing head injuries as the cause of death.
Maliusis and a 41-year-old woman were initially arrested, though the woman faced no further action by police.
During the trial, the court heard how Maliusis had called police to report finding his unresponsive friend.
He claimed that an altercation had occurred the day before, which involved mutual play-fighting turning aggressive.
Witnesses recalled how Maliusis had attacked Akatjevas, punching him repeatedly in the face for around five minutes.
Returning the next morning, Maliusis discovered Akatjevas unresponsive, prompting him to call emergency services.
Maliusis has been remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing on 6th August.
