Norwich initiative offers free school uniforms to support families
Bringing the community together with pre-loved uniforms
Castle Quarter in Norwich is reaching out to families with an initiative providing free pre-loved school uniforms ahead of the new school year.
Organised by local marketing manager Gemma Hyde, the initiative aims to ease the financial burden of buying school uniforms amid rising living costs.
"School uniforms are very expensive," Hyde said, "and with living costs going up, initiatives like this can be very helpful."
The pre-loved school uniform initiative encourages community involvement through donations and exchanges.
Organisers invite families to donate or exchange uniforms they no longer need, creating a cycle of support within the community.
"We've had quite a few people drop in, the older generation who don’t have family members here or children that go to school. They’ve purchased school dresses or trousers because they want to help somebody" Gemma said.
Gemma hopes the initiative will not only provide practical assistance but also strengthen community ties.
"It's about giving back to the community," she said.
"Times are tough at the moment, so I feel like families should just come and have a look, see what we have. You never know what you can find."
No registration is required to participate, but attendees are encouraged to bring a carrier bag to take their items home, keeping in mind limited bag availability on-site.
