Norwich City Women gear up for first Tier 3 league game after historic promotion
UEA lecturer Millie Daviss and student Lauren Hailes celebrate their football success
Two members of the University of East Anglia (UEA) community are preparing for a landmark football season following Norwich City Women's promotion to Tier 3 of women's football.
UEA lecturer Millie Daviss and student Lauren Hailes were instrumental in Norwich City Women (NCW)'s historic triumph earlier this year, marking the club's first advancement to the Women's National League, which sits just below the Women's Championship and Women's Super League in English women's football.
Millie Daviss, a UEA alum and current lecturer, shared her excitement about the achievement:
"It was an incredible day, and one I will never forget for the rest of my life."
She expressed the significance of the promotion for the club and reflected on her journey since joining Norwich City in the 2016/17 season.
Lauren Hailes, a midfielder for NCW and a Physical Education, Sport, and Health student at UEA, echoed Millie's sentiment, acknowledging the collective effort of the team to reach this milestone:
"We worked so hard for this moment as a team, and it was so special to have that finally pay off and get the club to Tier 3."
The UEA has supported its athletes through programmes and degree offerings, as noted by lecturer Julia Robathan. She highlighted the financial and logistical aid provided to Millie and Lauren, enabling them to succeed academically and athletically.
Norwich City Women's first match in the Women's National League will be against Huddersfield Town on Sunday, 16th August, marking the start of their journey in the new tier.
