A service to honour the sacrifices of those who served in the Far East during World War II- is being held at Norwich Cathedral, today.

It's being attended by His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester and starts at 11am, after a parade takes place in the grounds.

While VE Day marked the end of the war in Europe in May 1945. However, many thousands of Armed Forces personnel were still engaged in combat in the Far East for a further three months after this.

These includes many people and regiments who were from Norfolk, Suffolk and wider East Anglian region.

VJ Day (Victory over Japan Day) marks the day Japan surrendered on 15 August 1945, which ended the Second World War.

"May their example of courage and endurance"

The Dean of Norwich, the Very Revd Dr Andrew Braddock, said:

“Norwich Cathedral is honoured to host this nationally significant commemoration and service to mark VJ Day, at which we will especially remember the sacrifice of all those who fought, suffered and died in the Far East.

“May their example of courage and endurance in the cause of peace continue to inspire us today.”
