Stephen Fry is to narrate a new documentary following the renovation of Norwich Castle.

Set to be broadcast on Channel 4, the programme will follow the multi-million pound redevelopment of the Castle's medieval Keep undertaken by Norfolk Museums Service, restoring it to its former glory as a Norman Palace.

It's been filmed over the past eight years as renovations have taken place.

The Grade I listed Keep is set to reopen in spring 2025, with the documentary scheduled to air after the reopening of the Keep.

"The work undertaken by the project team has been monumental"

Charlie Gauvain is production company Eye Film’s Managing Director.

He says the documentary has been a passion project for the whole team: “We’ve been documenting this incredible journey for over eight years, and I’m thrilled that Channel 4 will bring our film to a national audience.

"We’re honoured that Sir Stephen Fry will lend his hugely recognisable voice to the documentary.

"The work undertaken by the project team has been monumental, and it’s a privilege to share their efforts.

"My hope is that this film will help put Norfolk on the global map, showing the region's historical and cultural importance."

"Once-in-a-lifetime project"

Cllr. Kay Mason Billig, Leader of Norfolk County Council, said: “Today’s announcement is fantastic news for this once-in-a-lifetime project.

"The film will shine a spotlight on the extraordinary work to turn the clock back 900 years and present Norwich Castle Keep in all its Norman splendour.

"Eye Film have been wonderful partners in documenting the project from the start, working alongside the project team on the journey, from inception to completion.

"We are very excited by this opportunity to share the story of the Keep’s transformation with audiences across the UK and beyond."

An exact air date is still to be confirmed.
