Police have put out a disruption warning ahead of a planned protest in Bowthorpe on Sunday 17 August.

There have been a number of similar events at hotels across Norfolk.

Officers have been working closely with organisers, local partners and those who are planning to attend to put in place a robust policing operation to facilitate a peaceful protest.

Superintendent Wes Hornigold said: “The vast majority of people attending these protests are doing so peacefully and I would like to thank them for their cooperation in ensuring the safety of the wider public.

“We will continue to work in a fair and balanced way, allowing people to voice their views in a safe and lawful manner.”

Due to a planned procession, travel disruption is expected for drivers in the local area.

The route will start from 1.30pm, at the Norkie public house, travelling via Wendene and finishing at the Brook Hotel at approximately 2pm.

As with previous protests, increased powers will be put in place to ensure public safety.

This includes:

A Section 60AA of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 which means you could be asked to remove a face covering from 10am to 10pm on Sunday 17 August 2025.

A Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 which means officers can direct anyone committing, or who may commit anti-social behaviour to leave the area from 10am to 10pm on Sunday 17 August 2025.

Anyone who refuses to remove a face covering when required to do so may be arrested.

The powers will come into effect in the area designated in the attached map.
