Man charged for assaulting police officer

Police have charged a man in connection with an assault of a police officer in Norwich.

Police were called to Aylsham Road shortly after 7pm on Tuesday (15 July) following a report of a collision between two vehicles.

Upon attendance a male police officer was assaulted and sustained injuries to his face.

He received medical care at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and has since been discharged.

A man in his 50s was arrested and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation centre for questioning.

Tony Palmer, 58, of Colindeep Lane, Norwich has subsequently been charged with assault by beating of an emergency worker.

He has since been released on police bail ahead of his appearance at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on 2 September 2025.
