A local Michelin star chef is urging everyone to trade out pointed knives for round-tipped ones.

It comes from Galton Blackiston who's orignally from Hainford.

Exactly a week after a teenage girl at Thorpe St Andrew School was stabbed and left with minor injuries, which she's recovering from.

A 15 year-old boy has since been charged with attempted murder.

Mr Blackiston's working with the Joe Dix Foundation on this work.

The Norwich-based charity say that scientific research shows that there's a '70 per cent chance' that these blades won't go through materials, like clothing.

The group was set-up after 18 year-old Joe Dix was stabbed to death on a Norwich housing estate in 2022.

"I can see the problems that exist with sharp edged knives"

Galton Blackiston told us why he's backing this:

"There is a real danger now that if a student is being bullied or facing a rough time that they might decide to bring a knife into school. Something which can be horrific.

"The rounded-edge knife can prevent a vast majority of fatal accidents.

"I can see the problems that exist with sharp edged knives.

"The big thing that's needed is for chefs, like myself, promoting the usage of safe knives.

"I hope that they supermarkets and retailers take heed of this and invite us in to demonstrate how safe and effective these knives are, as an alternative.

"People think it's one of those things that'll never happen to them"

Lorraine Bliss is from the Joe Dix Foundation:

"I hope that the rollout of this could lead to happier and safer communities. I think that one of the biggest problems is that people think it's one of those things that'll never happen to them.

"I believe that we should all do a personal knife audit, if you will. I had a draw that I rarely went into and I found some horrendously sharp knives in there.

"Especially when you've got children or little ones in the house, lets get the temptation and risks of knives away.

"We will never be able to stop it completely- but what we can do is reduce the risk".
