Norfolk foodbank issues urgent plea for donations as oil prices surge

A foodbank in Norfolk is issuing an urgent plea for donations as it reports a huge rise in demand as a result of surging oil prices.
North Norfolk foodbank says it's supporting more people with emergency food parcels as a growing amount of families find themselves in financial crisis.
Liaison Officer Jamie Payne said: " We rely on the generosity of local people donating both food and money to us, as any of the foodbanks will do. But, currently donations that come in don't quite meet the demand that goes out."
As a result, the foodbank are now having to buy stock themselves from supermarkets.
Jamie said: "As anybody will know, when they do their own food shopping, the cost of the weekly shop just seems to go up and up every week, every month. That's the same for us."
The site is part of the Trussle Trust, a charity operating 1,400 foodbanks across the country.
Jamie says others are in the same position: " Whether they're in North Norfolk, Norwich, South Norfolk or anywhere else in East Anglia, each foodbank is going to be having these financial pressures."
Volunteers at the foodbank say it's not just food that people are struggling with, but also their mental health.
Jamie said that some members are starting training on how to support individuals mental health needs: " It's so that when we speak to them, we can have really meaningful conversations to help support them because there's a lot going on at the moment."
"Things that are happening thousands and thousands of miles away are going to have an impact not only on our finances, but also on our thoughts and wellbeing."
The foodbank is asking for donations, no matter the size, so it can keep supporting local people who need it.
