Norfolk dentists says don't 'snack' on Easter chocolate, to protect teeth

Almost three thousand kids went to A and E last year, solely because they had such severe tooth ache- according to official figures

A dentist in Norfolk is urging all of us not snack of chocolate this Easter- to ensure that lasting damage isn't done to our teeth.

The appeal comes as tooth decay remains the main reasons why children aged five between nine years old are being admitted into hospital- according to official figures.

The numbers also show that almost three thousand kids went to A and E last year- solely because they had such severe tooth ache.

"It's important to make sure that the cleaning regime is really good"

Dr Andy Bell works in Gorleston and is chair of Norfolk's local dental committee:

"Dental problems are issues don't just effect your teeth, they effect social skills, eating, people's wider quality of life and how children perform in school. Going on to adulthood, it's knocking on to work.

"It's important to make sure that the cleaning regime is really good and make sure you're using plenty of fluoride- within the required recommendations.

What's the Government doing to improve dentistry?

The Department of Health and Social Care say they're rolling out an extra 700 thousand urgent dental appointments, across the UK.

The Government are also rolling out supervised toothbrushing for 3 to 5 year olds, to improve youngsters mental health.

Number 10 says this marks the first steps towards rebuilding NHS dentistry.
