Cyclist to tackle 500-mile journey for bereaved children across Norfolk
Local man returns home after an intense three-day ride to benefit Nelson’s Journey
A Norfolk fundraiser is in the home stretch after an extensive cycling challenge, raising money for Nelsons Journey, a charity committed to raising awareness of childhood bereavement.
Harry Webb embarked on a 500-mile ride from Edinburgh Castle to Norwich Castle on Thursday (11th June), taking on nearly 20,000 feet of climbing over the past two days.
Harry kicked off his challenge at Edinburgh Castle, and then headed down the east coast of the UK.
The first day involved a 164-mile ride passing through Bamburgh, Newcastle, and ending in Durham.
On the second day, Harry faced a 180-mile stretch through Middlesbrough, Whitby, Scarborough, and Hull, coming to a rest in Lincoln.
Today, marks the final day of the challenge, Harry will ride Norfolk's coastal roads, from Long Sutton, King's Lynn and Hunstanton.
He will ultimately reach his destination, Norwich Castle.
Harry said: "' Ive never done anything consecutively for this sort of distance. So I think it's going to definitely test me quite a lot,
You do get a lot of time to think about things, which is not a great thing sometimes because it makes time go slow,
But I think I'll be looking forward to seeing Norwich Castle when I get it back into Norwich."
Harry is undertaking this challenge to raise funds for Nelson’s Journey, an organisation that has supported bereaved children and young people across Norfolk since 1997.
Harry and his wife recently had their first child, he said this helped him decide which chairty to fundraise for:
" Me and my wife recently had our first child, I just think it means a lot to me now, I suppose, in a way, having a child now meant my main priority was to help them as a chairty,"
" The money goes to a really, really good. It helps young children out who unfortunately lost a significant person in their life" he said;
Nelson’s Journey Funding and Marketing Manager , Gary Stevens said “This is an incredible challenge that Harry is taking on for us, not only in the distance he is cycling but the time he is aiming to do it in,
Fundraising from this event will help support our work with bereaved children and young people in Norfolk and we thank Harry and all involved in this fantastic event”
