Norfolk animal sanctuary owner charged with 15 animal welfare offences
More than 300 animals were removed from the sanctuary during an investigation in 2024
A Norfolk woman has been charged with 15 offences following an investigation into the care of hundreds of animals at an animal sanctuary.
Lyz Hall, 46, of Shortthorn Road, Stratton Strawless, faces a number of charges linked to animal welfare, wildlife laws and veterinary medicines.
The charges include two counts of causing unnecessary suffering to animals and three counts of failing to properly care for animals.
She is also accused of offences involving grey squirrels and muntjac deer, including keeping the animals and allowing them to escape or releasing them. Another charge relates to the possession of live wild birds.
Hall also faces five charges connected to veterinary medicines and controlled drugs. These include allegedly having unauthorised veterinary medicines, using veterinary products without permission, giving a harmful substance to protected animals, and possessing the controlled drugs Oramorph and Diazepam.
The charges follow an operation at Hallswood Animal Sanctuary in Stratton Strawless on 16 September 2024.
During the operation, which was assisted by the RSPCA, more than 300 birds and other animals were removed from the site.
Hall is due to appear at Norwich Magistrates' Court on 25 August 2026.
