Emergency services were called to Caister Medical Centre in Caister-on-Sea, Norfolk, for the second time this week after a possible gas exposure led to the evacuation of the building.

At around 1:15 pm on the latest occasion, emergency responders, including the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), two ambulances, and one ambulance officer vehicle, attended the scene following reports of changes in air quality at the medical centre.

A spokesperson for the centre confirmed, “The health centre was evacuated as a precautionary measure and patient appointments were moved to nearby Newtown Surgery.”

The spokesperson added, “Investigations are still ongoing but it is believed there is no ongoing risk to staff or the public and the situation will continue to be monitored. The practice is now open again and patients should continue to attend appointments unless they are otherwise informed.”

Two women were taken to James Paget Hospital in Gorleston for further assessment, and five people were checked at the scene by paramedics.

This latest incident follows a similar emergency on 29 April, when the centre was evacuated after 16 people reported feeling unwell. Four staff members were taken to hospital as a precaution. On that occasion, the centre reopened the next day with a spokesperson saying, “Investigations are still ongoing but it is believed there is no ongoing risk to staff or the public.”

Both incidents have prompted large-scale emergency responses involving fire crews, paramedics, and police, but no further risks have been identified. The situation remains under investigation.
