A man is due to stand trial later this year after pleading not guilty to the murder of a cyclist who was allegedly deliberately hit by a car.

David Morgan, 40, pleaded not guilty at Norwich Crown Court to the murder of Richard Smith on May 11 this year.

He appeared by video-link from Norwich Prison to enter his plea on Friday.

Norfolk Police said they received a report of “a cyclist being deliberately hit by a white Mercedes CLA 180 Sport car” just after 5pm on May 8 in Chartwell Road, Norwich.

The force said 50-year-old Mr Smith died three days later in hospital on May 11.

Morgan, of George Winter Court, Norwich, was remanded in custody until his trial at the same court from November 2.

Judge Anthony Bate said the time estimate for the trial was five to 10 days.

In a previous tribute released through police, Mr Smith’s family described him as a “keen NCFC (Norwich City Football Club) supporter, a blood and organ donor and a proud dad to his three children”.
