78 year old died after being trampled by cattle at Norfolk estate
The inquest into the man's death has opened
78-year-old man succumbed to severe chest injuries after reportedly being trampled by cattle at Felbrigg Hall, Norfolk, according to an inquest.
The man, John Orton, was a retired telecommunications engineer and passed away on 13th July at the National Trust estate.
Norfolk Coroner's Court opened the inquest into his death on Friday.
Maeve Sykes, assistant coroner for Norfolk, read a statement from the coroner’s officer specifying that a post-mortem examination gave a provisional cause of death as ‘severe chest injuries due to having been trampled by cattle’.
Police reported they were called to the Felbrigg Hall estate at around 11.45am on the day of the incident and confirmed that Mr Orton died at the scene.
Felbrigg Hall, which includes Tudor-era sections, was transferred to the National Trust in 1969.
It was temporarily closed following the tragedy.
A previous death occurred at the estate in 2007, when an 11-year-old boy, Daniel Mullinger, died after a branch fell on him during a school visit.
The inquest into Orton's death has been postponed until next year.
