Man, 62, charged with misconduct in a public office following Thetford disorder

A man has been charged with misconduct in a public office after information was allegedly released about a number of addresses in a market town which were later targeted during several nights of disorder.

Norfolk Police said the case was “in connection with the release of information relating to a number of addresses in Thetford, which were later targeted during several nights of violent disorder”.

The force said James Jobson, of Highlow Road, Costessey, appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with misconduct in a public office.

The 62-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at Norwich Crown Court on September 14.

Homes linked to asylum seekers were targeted in Thetford and police officers were assaulted during three nights of unrest earlier this month.

Norfolk Police said officers were “subjected to significant aggression” in Thetford on August 5, including officers being hit with a rock, bitten and spat at.

The force said in an update last week that 21 arrests had been made in connection with the disorder.
