Court sets trial date following delayed hearing due to mental health concerns
A trial date has been set for a man accused of threatening Andrew Mountbatten Windsor in Norfolk.
39-year-old Alex Jenkinson is charged with using threatening, abusive, or insulting behaviour that allegedly led the former Duke of York to fear unlawful violence during an incident on May 6th.
Originally set to stand on trial this week, the hearing was postponed by Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring due to concerns over Jenkinson’s mental health.
The trial is due to begin at Westminster Magistrates Court on the 21st of December.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is anticipated to be a witness during the trial, providing evidence via videolink.
The case involves an alleged incident while Andrew was walking his dogs near Wolferton, close to his Marsh Farm property.
Following the incident, Jenkinson was detained under the Mental Health Act for approximately a month and subsequently accommodated in a Travelodge.
Jenkinson's phone searches, including phrases like “Prince Andrew” and “birthday”, are expected to form part of the evidence at the trial.
However, the defence raised concerns regarding the preparation of phone evidence, prompting the court to engage an expert forensic officer to deliver this evidence at trial.
Jenkinson has admitted to not providing a blood specimen while in custody on May 6th, though he denies the public order offence against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
Additionally, he faces another charge involving threatening behaviour aimed at Stephen Terry in King’s Lynn on May 5th.
Currently on conditional bail, Jenkinson is restricted from accessing royal sites such as Sandringham, Buckingham Palace, Balmoral, Windsor, and Highgrove.
The court further stipulated that he must refrain from contacting, approaching Andrew, or entering Norfolk.
