‘Major’ film shoot coming to Norfolk

A production company is in talks with a council to bring a “major” film shoot to a town on the Norfolk coast.
North Norfolk District Council has confirmed plans to help bankroll a film expected to be shot in Cromer towards the end of this year.
The council has said it hopes the shoot will boost spending during on-site filming and then boost tourism again once the film is released.
In a behind-closed-doors meeting this week, the Liberal Democrat cabinet agreed to help fund the film, which has been kept under tight-wraps for commercial and confidentiality reasons.
The authority has also not disclosed how much it will contribute to the project.
One insider suggested council bosses are hoping to cash in on something similar to the effect Game of Thrones has had in Northern Ireland.
Since the show’s release, the country has enjoyed a huge tourism boom, with fans from across the world flocking to visit locations made famous on screen.
A spokesman for the authority said: “NNDC is working with a film production company to bring an exciting project to the district.
“While we can’t announce all the details yet we are excited about taking a major production to the area and making it a success.”
While the film that is being shot remain unknown, the first details of the production are understood to have been announced at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
Norfolk Screen and Norwich-based Epic Studios are understood to have been involved in brokering the deal, along with Norfolk County Council’s economic development team.
It would not be the first time Cromer has provided a backdrop for film and television cameras.
Norfolk legend Alan Partridge, played by Steve Coogan, brought his own film debut to the town in 2013’s Alpha Papa, with a car chase through Norwich and Sheringham reaching its climax in a shoot-out on Cromer Pier.
Other productions to be shot in Cromer include the BBC detective drama The Running Grave, based on the Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling) novels, which was filmed in the town earlier this year and used the seafront, pier and the Hotel de Paris as a backdrop.
The tourism hotspot has also featured in 2023 documentary Seaside Special and 2015 Bollywood hit Housefull 3, starring Akshay Kumar.
Ben Stiller, the Hollywood actor and director behind Zoolander and Night at the Museum, was seen in Norfolk this week, at Seething Airfield near Loddon.
He was researching a new film based on a Second World War pilot stationed there.
