A man convicted of rape in King’s Lynn has had his prison sentence extended following an appeal by prosecutors.

Alfie Rowbotham, 27, of Walpole Road, King’s Lynn, was sentenced to eight and a half years behind bars after he raped a woman in September 2024.

Rowbotham was originally sentenced to five and a half years at King’s Lynn Crown Court in June 2025, after being found guilty in an eight-day trial in March 2025. The CPS East of England Area appealed this initial sentence, arguing it was unduly lenient. Following a hearing on 14 October 2025, Rowbotham's jail time was increased by three years.

The attack occurred in the early hours of 19 September 2024, after the victim was walking home from a night out. Rowbotham, who was walking his dog, approached the woman, forcibly kissed and groped her, and then dragged her into an alleyway to commit the rape. The victim managed to escape and sought help at a nearby taxi office, whose staff immediately contacted police.

Rowbotham was quickly identified by officers using CCTV footage and was arrested and charged on the same day.

Investigating officer, DC Christine Copeman, praised the victim, saying:

“I would like to commend the victim in this case for her bravery in coming forward and supporting this prosecution.

“I hope that this increased sentence provides her with some level of comfort, knowing he will be behind bars for the foreseeable future.”
