King’s Lynn Corn Exchange to light up purple for Pandora Project’s 13th anniversary
Domestic abuse awareness celebrated as local charity marks 13 years
King’s Lynn Corn Exchange will be illuminated purple today Saturday, 19th September 2026 to commemorate the 13th anniversary of Pandora Project.
This special illumination is part of the efforts to raise awareness about domestic abuse, coinciding with the upcoming Domestic Abuse Awareness Month in October.
Pandora Project, founded in 2013, offers specialised support to women and children affected by domestic abuse, extending its services to young people aged 5–18 in North and West Norfolk.
Despite increased awareness and legislative changes through the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, domestic abuse remains a significant issue in Norfolk. According to Norfolk County Council, nearly 11,400 domestic abuse-related crimes were recorded in 2023/24, with 70% of victim-survivors being female.
Domestic abuse is now recognised more broadly, encompassing not just physical violence, but also emotional, psychological, sexual, and economic abuse, as well as coercive and controlling behaviour and digital abuse.
The charity says technology has provided new avenues for abuse, including through location tracking and monitoring social media and online accounts.
A spokesperson for Pandora Project commented on the significance of the event, stating:
“Seeing King’s Lynn Corn Exchange illuminated in purple will be a very special moment for everyone involved with Pandora Project,
It represents 13 years of being there for women and children in our community through what can be some of the most difficult times in their lives,
We hope seeing the Corn Exchange lit purple will not only help us celebrate how far Pandora Project has come but also start conversations about domestic abuse and remind people that support is available.”
