The head of a foodbank in King's Lynn tells us they're expecting more people to need their help in January.

Figures from Trussell show that over 32 thousand emergency parcels were given out in the East, last winter.

These foodbanks in the East have seen a 63% increase in the number of parcels they give out at winter, compared to five years ago.

Over 32,000 food parcels were provided for children in the region last winter.

"So some of our focus is one on the stock for January and then February"

Helen Gilbert is the project manager at their West Norfolk branch:

"We find a lot of people actually go into debt at this time of the year because they are trying to make Christmas magical for their family.

"It could be that they're only spending a little bit more money than they would normally, on buying something like crackers.

"We are well stocked at the moment but we are also looking ahead to January, as that's often an even busier month than December.

"So some of our focus is one on the stock for January and then February.

The Government says it's implementing a £15 million fund to help charities redistribute surplus food from farms to food banks
