An inquest into the death of an 18 year-old boy who died after his kayak capsized in Norfolk has called his death ‘a tragic accident’.
Cory Chilvers was missing for three days before his body was found in the water in Wiggenhall St Germans, on 31st the July last year- following an underwater search by specialist diving teams.
The Inquest in more detail:
Four of Corey’s family attended court, (including his mum Claire Wadham), and told Coroner Samantha Goward about how the teenager was enjoying Kayaking for the first time.
With the 18 year-old said to be joking to his Fiancé and friend that he was going to try out for the Olympics, in the sport.
A short while later he fell into the water, called for help twice and didn't look like he was struggling in the water- according to those present.
The court heard how Corey was a strong swimmer, but wasn’t wearing a life aid at the time.
Claire Wadham told the coroner how her husband had been caught in reeds, when he entered the water to search for his son, with three emergency workers having to pull him out.
His family told the coroner that they’re now campaigning for warning signs and life aids to be installed along this stretch of water, to prevent a repeat of what happened.
They argue that if these were in place "the outcome could have been significantly different".
Corey had no medical issues that could have contributed to his death. The toxicology report also found that there were no signs of drugs of alcohol in his system.

In a previous tribute, Cory's family said: " We will always remember him as a kind, loving, funny and thoughtful man who was dedicated to his family, Brianna and his animal family; Alma, horse DeeDee, dog Nylah and cat Sooty."
"He was a great friend to so many and touched the lives of many more. He will be forever missed by all who knew him."
