Hunstanton RNLI successfully rescued two boys from the water after they were caught in a strong tide at Hunstanton on Friday, 14th August.

The brothers had been struggling in fast-moving water when two women and a man from the public acted quickly to assist them before the arrival of emergency services.

Hunstanton RNLI volunteers launched their inshore rescue hovercraft following tasking from HM Coastguard. Working alongside the Coastguard teams onshore, they provided rapid care to the boys upon retrieval from the water.

The boys, though exhausted and having swallowed seawater, remained conscious and responsive. RNLI volunteers provided oxygen and casualty care, aided by Coastguard personnel on scene.

Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 912 was crucial in the operation, offering further medical support through the paramedic onboard.

This incident highlights the effectiveness of multi-agency cooperation between Hunstanton RNLI, HM Coastguard, and Rescue 912, ensuring the boys received necessary care promptly.

The commitment of members of the public who raised the initial alarm and helped before the rescue teams arrived was also commendable.

Hunstanton RNLI emphasises the rapidity with which beachgoers can find themselves in trouble due to strong tides and currents, that can take even confident swimmers by surprise.

They advise checking tide conditions before visiting the coast and keeping a close eye on children.

If someone appears in distress at the coastline, they recommend calling 999 for the Coastguard.
