Police arrested 21 people during an operation targeting fraudulent driving licences and documents being used on Norfolk roads.

On Thursday 26th of February, officers were conducting Operation Foxtail in Great Yarmouth.

The operation's aim was to disrupt organised and serious crime on the county’s roads. It is funded by the Home Office Terminus fund which focuses on organised immigration crime road operations.

Officers stopped a coach transporting people to work and 16 arrests were made for immigration offences. As a result, immigration Enforcement has served a Civil Penalty Referral Notice to the employer. Fines of up to £60,000 for each illegal worker can given to the employer.

Five further arrests were made after various vehicle stops taking place throughout the day. Eight cars were also seized as the drivers were found to have no driving licences.

PC Josh Preston of the Roads and Armed Policing team said: “These operations give us a vital chance to tackle a range of criminal activity."

“We’re able to disrupt and break down organised networks involved in drug supply and human trafficking, helping safeguard those who are most at risk."

“Bringing multiple departments together in a coordinated approach also ensures we present a strong, visible deterrent and can act swiftly against anyone choosing to offend in Norfolk.”
