Teenager helps avoid disaster after snow globe sparks fire

A young girl from Earlham has been praised for her quick-thinking actions after spotting a fire caused by sunlight refracting through a glass snow globe on a windowsill.

Firefighters attended the scene and discovered that the sunlight had caused a pencil case to catch fire.

Fortunately, the fire self-extinguished before it could spread further.

The incident was identified by 14-year-old Poppy, who remained calm and called 999 while safely evacuating herself and the family dog, Charlie.

While waiting for the firefighters to arrive, Poppy ensured the safety of her household.

Poppy's mum, Sarah, expressed pride in her daughter's readiness, attributing it to Poppy's early education in emergency response and fire safety, thanks to her participation in Brownies and Scouts.

Following the fire, a Home Fire Safety Visit was conducted to ensure further safety precautions are in place.

This incident serves as an important reminder to keep glass ornaments, mirrors, and reflective objects away from direct sunlight and combustible materials, especially on windowsills.
