Drink driver more than four times over the limit banned after member of the public raises alarm
He was spotted swerving and clipping the kerb on the A47
A man has been banned from the roads after a member of the public spotted him driving dangerously and raised the alarm with police.
Andy Perry, a 41-year-old of Foxglove Avenue in Droitwich, was found to be more than four times over the drink drive limit.
He appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 7th October 2026, having been charged with drink driving after providing a breath sample of 156 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Perry pleaded guilty and was jailed for eight weeks, suspended for 12 months.
He was disqualified from driving for two and a half years and ordered to pay £239 in fines and costs. He was also told to complete 120 hours of unpaid work.
The case began shortly after 10am on Tuesday 6th October 2026, when a member of the public reported a driver swerving in the road and clipping the kerb.
A roads policing officer found the Skoda Octavia a short time later, travelling on the A47 towards Swaffham.
Perry failed the roadside breath test and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He was taken to King's Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning, where he gave the evidential breath sample.
He was charged and remanded into custody before appearing in court the following day.
PC Phil Writer, of the Roads and Armed Policing Team, said: "This case highlights the very real danger that drink drivers pose to everyone using our roads. Perry chose to get behind the wheel while heavily intoxicated, putting not only his own life at risk, but also the lives of other road users and pedestrians.
“Thankfully, a vigilant member of the public recognised the signs of impaired driving and contacted police, allowing officers to intervene before anyone was seriously injured. We would encourage anyone who suspects someone is driving under the influence of drink or drugs to report it to us. Together, we can help keep Norfolk’s roads safe."
