King's Lynn donkeys sport Norwich City football socks
Norwich City's donation helps protect donkeys from flies during outings
Some very special donkeys near King’s Lynn are sporting new socks this summer, thanks to the generosity of Norwich City Football Club.
The team has donated football socks to Miniature Donkeys for Therapy and Fun, a non-profit organisation based in Little Massingham, to help protect the animals’ legs from flies and bugs during summer months.
Pete Dye, Norwich City's kit man visited the charity and presented the socks, quickly forming a bond with the donkeys....
According to the organisation, the socks are proving effective in preventing fly bites. Karen Rust from the charity said:
"The donkeys get eaten with flies in the summer, sometimes it makes them bleed, so this is a marvellous thing and they look so cool!"
Karen reached out to Norwich Football Club last year, inquiring if they would be interested in donating some socks:
"They kindly said yes, we now have a lovely relationship with the club."
The football club has offered to supply the socks each year and plans to add the names of the donkeys to the socks in the future, making it easier for everyone to identify them when they are out on visits.
Karen said the generosity is greatly appreciated, as a self funded businesses,
"its a struggle raising money for the donkeys, and the charity work we do along side."
The organisation visit schools, nursery's and care homes weekly.
