Norfolk Constabulary can confirm that a data breach has occurred, involving payroll information for police officers and staff.

The incident was the result of human error, where a file was mistakenly sent to a former officer.

Police say they have no evidence that the information has been further shared or misused. The recipient has confirmed deletion of the data and appropriate legal steps have been taken.

The force has reported the matter to the Information Commissioner’s Office, which is satisfied with the response and requires no further action.

Police said: "We have implemented immediate changes to prevent a similar incident occurring again.

"We are sorry for the concern this may cause and are providing support to those affected."
