A criminal charge has been discontinued relating to the publication of information on social media during disorder in Thetford earlier this month.

62-year-old James Jobson of Highlow Road in Costessey was previously charged with misconduct in public office relating to information obtained through employment.

During the investigation, Mr Jobson gave a no comment interview when questioned under caution.

Detectives submitted the available evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, with Mr Jobson appearing at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday 17th August.

Enquiries continued after the charge, when officers discovered additional evidence that undermined the case against Mr Jobson. The CPS was informed and it was decided the legal test for prosecution was no longer met, and the case was discontinued.

Detectives continue to investigate how information was shared online which led to a number of addresses being targeted.
