'Collective vision' needed to restore heritage in Thetford- Norfolk MP
This follows £120 thousand being secured towards all this from the Government's 'Pride in Place' programme.
There's calls for a collective vision to help repair much loved old buildings in Thetford- by the area's MP.
A bid's been put in with the national heritage lottery fund to get funds towards repairing the likes of St Peter's Church in Thetford.
It also follows £120 thousand being secured towards all this from the Government's 'Pride in Place' programme.
"It creates a hook to get people into the town centre"
Terry Jermy is MP for South West Norfolk:
He told us more about one site that's in need of help
"Saint Peter's Church is a medieval church that's literally right in the middle of Thetford town centre.
"But with it being in such a state of disrepair, I've been working really closely to get that funding in.
"I'm really pleased that we've taken this bold step and submitted this bid. If this funding is confirmed then it's going to result in about £3 million going towards this one project.
"But beyond that, it creates a hook to get people into the town centre and spending their money.
"If you're going out shopping for the day, you want to go to a nice area with green spaces and park benches.
"These things help people enjoy their days outs and visit local attractions. That's really what we're hoping to do, we've got lots to celebrate".
It's expected that the fate of this bid will be revealed in March, this year.
