Christmas in July fundraiser set to boost The QEH Stroke Unit
local father and daughter plan event to purchase specialist wheelchairs
A festive music event in support of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital's (The QEH) Stroke Unit is set to bring Christmas cheer to Snettisham Memorial Hall today (31st July 2026).
Organised by long-standing fundraiser Maggie Drew, the night will feature music by Norfolk country singer Julie Dawn. Along with Christmas crackers, jumpers and novelty jumpers.
All proceeds from the event go towards specialised adjustable wheelchairs for stroke patients at The QEK.
These wheelchairs aim to overcome post-stroke challenges and improve the lives of patients by allowing them access to fresh air and a change of scenery in the Stroke Rehabilitation Garden.
Maggie fundraises along side her dad, inspired by the care her mother received at The QEH:
"it all started when my mum was ill, she was coming up to 80 and she had Sjogren's syndrome and she ended up with sepsis 7 times,
The hospital was brilliant, it just seemed like they would do anything for the patients."
Ever since her mother passed away, she has fundraised for the hospital.
Maggie said, “Fundraising for the hospital over the past four years has been incredibly important to me. It’s my way of saying thank you for the care and support my mum received, while also helping future patients and their families.”
Maggie and her dad plan to reach a £30,000 fundraising milestone this year. Together, they are not far off, with todays fundraiser taking them to £29,000.
