A man who stole cash, jewellery, and a car before driving away in his victim's vehicle has been jailed.

Darren Broome, 49, currently of HMP Norwich, Knox Road, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison at Norwich Crown Court.

He had previously admitted burglary of a dwelling in Knowsley Road, theft of a motor vehicle, and attempted burglary of a dwelling.

Police were called on 14 May following a daytime burglary while the householders were at work. As well as cash and jewellery, the offender stole the keys to a car parked outside the property before driving away in the vehicle.

Following CCTV enquiries, officers identified Broome as the suspect and he was arrested in Norwich the following day. The stolen vehicle was recovered in Great Yarmouth on 16 May.

Broome went on to admit to two further daytime burglaries. One took place in Cobholm, Great Yarmouth, on 15 May, where cash, jewellery and watches were stolen.

The second occurred in Esdelle Street, Norwich, on 13 May, where a games console and other items were stolen.

Police staff investigator Darren Reade said: "Broome's crimes have had a significant impact on his victims, whose homes were invaded and who, in some cases, lost cherished family possessions that were both valuable and held great sentimental importance.

"As well as losing treasured possessions that cannot be replaced victims also have to deal with the lasting impact of knowing a stranger has been in their home.”
