Work is being carried out to stop urban explorers from breaking into a council’s former headquarters on the outskirts of Norwich.

Construction workers have been spotted outside Thorpe Lodge in Yarmouth Road, which is in the process of being sold by Broadland District Council.

The authority is having to board up entrances to the building after it was accessed by intruders.

A video posted by the Facebook account Jayden Urbex shows someone exploring the inside of the building.

The offices have been empty since 2023, when the council moved into Horizon Centre at Broadland Business Park alongside South Norfolk Council.

The building is now almost entirely deserted, although a map of Broadland, some desks and computers remain inside.

Urban exploring involves trespassing onto a site, which is considered a civil matter.

It is understood the sale of the site – which includes a Grade-II listed stately home and a nuclear bunker – is still being finalised, more than a year after a buyer was identified.
