A 15-year-old boy has appeared in court facing charges of attempted murder following an incident at a secondary school near Norwich.

The boy allegedly stabbed a girl in the back at Thorpe St Andrew School, where both are pupils.

Appearing at Norwich Magistrates’ Court today (Friday 13th March) the defendant confirmed his name, address, and date of birth.

He did not enter pleas to the charges of attempted murder and possession of a knife on school premises.

Prosecutor Josephine Jones told the court that the school had gone into lockdown after multiple 999 calls were made at 10.24am on Wednesday.

Armed police responded to the scene on Laundry Lane.

CCTV footage reportedly shows an individual dressed in black, wearing a black mask, and carrying a carving knife.

The prosecutor stated that the victim was stabbed in the back but suffered minor injuries and was discharged after being treated at the hospital.

District Judge Matthew Bone imposed reporting restrictions to protect the identities of both the defendant and the victim.

The defendant was remanded into youth detention accommodation.

His next court appearance is scheduled at Norwich Crown Court on 10th April.
