Spanish giants Barcelona have signed 16-year-old AJ Tavares from Norwich City's academy.

Tavares has made an impression this season, featuring for the Under-18s and making a pre-season appearance with the first team, where he played 45 minutes against FC Volendam.

His move to Barcelona marks a significant step in his career, having represented England at youth levels.

Ben Knapper, sporting director, expressed his pride in Tavares's achievement.

“Whilst we are incredibly sad to be losing a young academy player of Ajay’s talent, our overriding sense is one of immense pride," Knapper said.

Ajay Tavares joined as an Under-12 and has excelled through various levels of the academy.

His journey included becoming an Under-16 Premier League national finalist team member and regularly featuring for the Under-18 squad.

Tavares also represented England at Under-15, Under-16, and Under-17 levels.

“He is a wonderful young person with an exciting future ahead," Knapper added.

Norwich City extends their best wishes to Ajay Tavares in his future career.
