A 16-year-old boy has pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of a teenage girl who was stabbed at a secondary school near Norwich and is due to stand trial later this year.

The defendant, who appeared before Norwich Crown Court by video link, pleaded guilty to having a kitchen knife without lawful authority at Thorpe St Andrew High School on March 11.

He is due to stand trial on the charge of attempted murder at the same court from October 5 this year with a time estimate of two to three weeks.

An earlier hearing was told that the boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is accused of attacking a 15-year-old girl at the school.

Police were called to Thorpe St Andrew School on Laundry Lane at 10.24am on March 11 following reports that a teenage girl had been stabbed.

The girl was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged.

The defendant was remanded to youth detention accommodation until a further case management hearing on September 1.
