Emergency services are investigating the cause of a large fire that broke out at a block of flats in Warrington.
The fire, described by officials as "significant", started in the stairwell of Rynet Court on Marsh House Lane shortly after 5.20pm on Monday, 2nd June.
Crews from across Cheshire and Greater Manchester were quickly on the scene, with firefighters rescuing around 50 people from upper floor windows and balconies, using aerial ladder platforms.
Video footage from the scene showed thick black smoke billowing into the air as residents were evacuated. Thankfully nobody is believed to have been seriously hurt.
The building was attended by multiple fire crews from Warrington, Birchwood, Lymm, Knutsford, Penketh, Alsager and Widnes, along with aerial ladder platforms from Lymm and Chester. Support was also provided by appliances from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
"We can confirm that firefighters have extinguished a large fire in the stairwell of a four-storey block of flats. A total of 50 people have been rescued from the building, including through the windows and balconies of the third and fourth floor.
"North West Ambulance Service triaged and treated those rescued on the scene and thankfully no serious injuries have been reported.
"At this time, it is believed everyone in the building has been accounted for but firefighters will carry out thorough checks.
"The blue light response has been significant, but the number of emergency service resources are being reduced accordingly. Fire crews will remain in attendance overnight. Roads in the immediate area will remain closed. An investigation into the cause is underway.
"Thank you to residents and the local community for their calmness and co-operation."
Road closures remained in place overnight as fire crews continued their work at the scene. Investigators were working to determine how the blaze started.
